Modular homes and their designs have come a long way and changed alot over the many years since first built. The new design techniques of today’s modular homes allow builders to make them much larger and more efficient. A modular home can be built from previous plans or from plans created by an architect. Many modular home builders use computers to put plans together to make sure they meet all of the building standards.

Some people make think of mobile homes when they hear the term modular. That is a big mistake becuase the two are not alike at all other than they can both be transported to the building lot. The framing for a modular home is just like that of a traditional home, except that modular homes use between 20 and 30 percent more material. The more material used on the home ensures a safe trip from the original site to the home site. These homes are built in climate controlled atmospheres and use high quality materials. The home is always protected from any harsh weather.

Modular homes are very basic and do sometimes look like manufactured homes. They may resemble each other, but are built in two entirely different ways. Each builder is different in their styles and designs.

Builder and homeowners can choose from many floor plans including: ranch, raised ranch and t-ranch, modern, haven, and two-story. Floor plans can usually be adjusted and modified to meet the owner’s needs and wants. This includes changing the space in the home, moving walls, doors and even windows. A room can be made larger by taking out an interior wall. Roof pitches can be can be raised to enhance the home. Most of these styles of homes can be made at the same or similar cost as other type homes.
