• North Carolina adopts the model code every three years. State amendments are adopted every three years.
Code Alert: The proposed effective date for the 2008 NC Electrical Code (2008 NEC) is June 1, 2008. The effective date for the 2009 NC State Building Code is January 1, 2009.
