Myths and facts about modular homes

There is a misconception that a modular home is the same as a manufactured home or more commonly known as a mobile home. While both are built in a factory, how they are put together is significantly different. We will discuss a few of those differences here.

As discussed previously, both types of home are built in a factory rather than directly onthe site. The Louisiana modular home is built in sections and prepared for construction at the site of the home. The manufactured or, mobile home, is built to state and local government construction codes at the factory. The mobile home is built on a steal chassis while the modular home is built directly on a concrete foundation and/or footers.

Louisiana Modular homes are factory built in sections but, are taken to the site of the home. Once at the site of the home, construction crews finish construction. The modular home, like the manufactured home, has to be constructed to state and local building codes. Modular homes are built to standard specifications where manufactured homes have smaller specifications. Due to these specifications, manufactured homes require specially made parts. Modular homes will take the standard home parts.

These parts include doors, windows, cabinets and plumbing to name a few. Since modular homes don’t need specific replacement parts or hardware, they have a longer durability than manufactured homes. Louisiana Manufactured homes are slightly less expensive than a modular home but, with parts and hardware needing to be replaced more frequently, the cost would eventually end up meeting the cost of the modular home in Louisiana.
